Compare quality on digital 8 sony camcorder and sony hard drive type camcorder?

I currently have a sony digital 8 type camcorder, as well as canon sd400 camera which can take video. I like the idea and size of the current hard dirve camcorders, but quality of video is of utmost importance to me. How does the quality of video compare on these models? Thank you, Angela.
