does FireWire quality really matter?

I’m always seeing these cables packaged up saying “24K gold improves signal transfer” and all that jazz, but does it really matter? I’ve been using a 4-pin to 4-pin FireWire cable to get videos from my old camcorder to my laptop, which only has a 4-pin port. the cable is not gold-plated. am I still getting a good transfer? it’s tough to tell by just looking at the video....
