What software is best to use to edit sound file to create ringtones?

I normally use Motorola Phone Tools and edit the sound file, and then send it to my device via Bluetooth, but I no longer use a Motorla device, and altho Motorola Phone Tools does still work, it is a hassle as it cannot find my phone. Does anyone know of a free proggie on Download.com or something that lets you take regular MP3 files, and choose a section of that song, like 12-20 seconds long? Thanks!

How do you go about creating a ringtone from a cd or mp3 file? I’ve heard of websites like phonezoo, for example, that offer this as a free service, but are these websites for real? Is it really free? I am a Verizon customer and have unlimited texting, so could anyone recommend a good website or software that would work and would be free? Thanks.

I found a website where I can create my own ringtones. I thought I could use the songs that I bought on iTunes, but as it turns out they’re m4a files and I need to have mp3 files. So does anybody know where I can get an mp3 file? Or convert the iTunes file to an mp3?
