Beginner Camcorder User ~ Handycam HDR-SR12?

I got a HDR-SR12 camcorder for christmas and have a question – well many but this is the first.

What is the need for a memory stick on a hard disk camcorder? Is it just easy access? A little more space? Not that I think you will need it with this one?

What about must have accessories? Does anyone know what screen protector to get or are they all the same?

    Hi, I hope I can be usefull. The memory stick slot is, as you guessed for commodity and extra space. You can now buy these cards with up to 32gb of space. I agree that its not very usefull for an everyday use, but if you are thinking about recording in high def, I think you have 14h of recording time with the 120GB HDD. This gives you 3.5h more :)

    For the accessories, there are many things you might want to get. Primarely, an extra battery. Whats the use of having a 120Gb hdd, if the camcorder can only run 2h at a time! Also, you might want to look for diffrent kinds of lens like optical or wide to get the bests shots possible.

    You should check out the accessories packs they sell on ebay. They probably dont have a warranty, but you would for shure save a couple houndred dollars.
