The History of the World of Video Game Music – Part 1
June 28, 2010 by: nickadmin
The History of the World of Video Games – Part 1 Thrown together for the MAGFest edition of the Dwelling of Duels monthly remix contest, January 2010 Rules: Song must contain at least one instrument played live. Song must be 10 minutes or less. Song must be a remix of published video game music. I thought I would do something slightly different from the norm and put together a video that – in 10 minutes – went through the entire history of video gaming music. The arrangement was getting out of control and could have gone on for a good 70+ minutes so it was chopped to stop at the 16-bit era. A huge wealth of material was bypassed in an effort to keep the flow going and to stick to the time limit (i mean, come on. i could spend 10+ minutes on ninja gaiden alone). Most skipped consoles and systems were quickly acknowledged in the closing credits. There are bits that could be deemed very much not safe for work. Watch at your own risk. No plan to do a sequel in the immediate future unless a buncha people come forward with an incredibly compelling reason.

Must have taken you forever to think of ways to blend everything together like that.

The switch to Castlevania was epic, and the whole thing was an orgasm to the ears!
@dankon2 Defender if I remember correctly
join the club, sir. no sega consoles in my home either until the dreamcast.
i’ll get right on that.
my chronology of gaming started with the atari 2600, went to the commodore 64, then the NES, then PC gaming for AGES. then finally the N64. never owned the snes and wasn’t able to get my hands on a sega console until the dreamcast. the SMS was particularly difficult because of all of the cross porting. i couldn’t figure it all out at first.
that, and the bit right before the epic atari fail, was a meant more as filler than anything else. there are far too many amazing FFVI remixes out there; i couldn’t do it justice.
or ninja gaiden or wizards and warriors or princess tomato and the salad kingdom or rygar or dragon quest or …. (: i ran with what i could make flow in the timeframe i had available to me.
defender. one of the earlier arcades.
