Who here plays rock band? Or a real instrument?

June 8, 2010 by: nickadmin

Ok… So i enjoy video games, guitar, and love rock music, and they created a game called rock band in which everyone in the world with a video game system and some extra time on their hands could PRETEND to be a rock star. I use the word pretend because i am tired of these stupid youtube videos and everyone online bragging about how great at this video game they are.. But that isnt the worst part, i dont mind if your amazing at this game, or if you brag about it and show off, what really makes me mad is when people talk about these Kids that are good at it like there actual talented rock stars! Just because you can play run to the hills Perfectly on guitar, mike, or drums in rock band doesnt mean you can do it for real, now im sure there are plenty of people out there who can actually play a real instrument and plays rock band like nobodys business. Which is great. But i recently saw a video that stunned me. This young man videotaped himself to prove in fact he could play a real instrument… But as i watched i was horrified to see that he needed to mute his television and by using the notes fromn rock band and by notes i mean the 5 colors that yopu need to hit in order to pass through the game, but as i was saying he muted his T.V. and played real drums but used the rock band notes to play his real drums, so like when there was a green note, he hit his cymbal, It looked like this guy learned to play an instrument through a video game, and what really got me more aggravated was how everyone that commented his video thought he was amazing!! What do you guys think of someone learning afew songs from a video game? I was not impressed at all… No matter what song he played, what do you guys think of that? I think its kind of disgraceful to any actual person with any musical talent who actually practiced on their real instrument for hours a day to get good and be able to play these songs and even create these songs! And this guy comes in playing a video game then making himself appear as though he was truly talented by practicing on four little plastic drums… Anyone have a comment to add to this or anything? Am i the only person alive on this planet that thinks this guy is a loser making actual musical performers cringe at the site of his videos?

i spend my time actually playing a REAL guitar….not a piece of plastic

but i do have to say the kids who play the drums on rock band could easily do just as good on a real drum set…..unlike people who think they can play a real guitar because they play rock band

but whatever its just a game and if it introduces more kids to music and gives them the desire to actually play the real thing, then great

I play real guitar and I could play expert on Guitar Hero after a few tries, but I find no interest in bragging about Guitar Hero or caring how good someone is at it in my perspective as a guitarist.

You can’t give an audience goosebumps or impress girls by playing a song someone else wrote with an instrument that isn’t even real or, to better put it in perspective, by beating Mario Bros.

To me, Guitar Hero is simply what it is: A game. The greatness of being able to make inspiring riffs, write entire songs, and play a song by another musician and make it your own far surpasses the rhythm of some kid that likes games because that is ART.

I play a real guitar, mandolin, and drums, but i also play rock band for fun, not because i want to be the best in the world at it

To answer your question, I play guitar. I agree with your rant, too.

Lol, yeah. I don’t play an instrument, but my brother and my dad play guitar, and my brother wants Guitar Hero, and I don’t get it.
We were in Argos waiting for our order and they had like a demo Guitar Hero, and my brother went on it and sucked lol, but then this kid comes on and he was playing really well but he was like trying to show off about it. So I said rather loudly to my brother (we were stood right next to them) “I don’t get why you want that game? I mean yeah it’s an okay game, but you can play a real instrument! I thought that game only appealed to people who couldn’t play a real guitar?”
The kid just sort of sidled off. Hah.

I know it’s Guitar Hero and not Rock Band, but it’s the same thing…

    I play Bass

I’ve been playing guitar for a year, and I’ve played guitar hero a few times. It’s actually harder to play the game when you learn guitar, probably because how used to a real guitar you are, and how different that little chunk of plastic is (what’s the tremolo bar doing all the way out in lala land?). I don’t really like the fact that everybody treats it like it’s such a big deal (I can beat song X on extreme!!!). if you want to play a song, you can only play one that’s in the game. It’s a fun game but come on, I can play real guitar (to a point, I’m getting better :-) ) so can they!

i play the piano and it does kinda piss me off

  12. pianoplayer4life says:

ya i totally agree. I play three instruments and i have put good practice time into getting where i am today. There is no musicality to playing a video game or an instrument off a video game. Its the same as playing it by ear and not knowing the proper techniques. That person cant even dare to call himself a musician. That is almost as bad as beginners ( who dont know much about music) forming a band and then people seeing them as really good because the people know nothing about music but they judge by looks and popularity and they lower their standards for people who are younger– that drives me crazy

  13. Nay [The Joker] is Anti-Jonas says:

I play both. I won 1st place in the talent show playing piano last year and I’ve been playing guitar for almost 2 years.

I play my guitar and keyboard A LOT but playing Guitar Hero is really fun too. Honestly I think all video games are a waste of time, but it’s just entertaining to play sometimes.

And a lot of those songs I heard of from Guitar Hero I try to play on my real guitar, Cliffs of Dover is a crazy hard song but it’s really fun to play.
