Do you think video games cause violent behavior in kids?

April 19, 2010 by: nickadmin

Lately, I’ve read and heard about putting a ban on certain video games because of the psychological effect they have on children.

I honestly do not believe there is any correlation between video games and violent behavior in children. My brother and I have both been playing Mortal Kombat since 1992 (he’s 16, I’m 20) and you never saw us ripping off each others heads or slamming each other’s heads into the ground.

I don’t quite think it’s fair to put a ban on video games that lots of us play for entertainment value. If you don’t want kids exposed to violence, don’t let them play them. But while you’re at it, don’t let them watch TV, ‘cause there’s plenty of violence there. Oh, and take them out of school because they’re bound to see some there.

I’m just sayin’! LOL!

No I don’t believe they do. I feel they develop great hand eye coordination, and motor skills. Plus it speeds up their metabolism.

I don’t think video games really cause violent behavior in kids, I’m 15 and have been playing first person shooters for as long as i remember and i’m anything but violent. I don’t know about everyone else but i just find it’s a good way to relieve stress :P

There is a corrolation between violent video games and the rise of blood pressure in children playing these games..many studies have been done. It also takes a few minutes for a child’s blood pressure to return to normal after he stops playing. While this may not affect the rise in violent behavior in some children, some are more suseptable than others. But, I have observed some adults become more aggressive as a result of violent video games as well..so it affects more than just kids

i agree. watch the news for violence, watch the history channel for violence. my son (age 10) has played video games, watched many movies, and is addicted to the history and military channels on tv. he also knows that it is a video game and NOT REAL. he knows that it is history and cannot be repeated. why not put the blame where blame is due as in parent responsibility. instead of the video games and tv being baby sitters , talk to your kids, explain things to your kids. my brother and i grew up on violent cartoons, i mean the coyote was forever trying to blow up, smash, run over the roadrunner, but we never tried to drop a 10ton rock off a cliff on our “enemy”. and yes they learn and see more violence, bad words, bad behavior at school than ANYWHERE else.

yea people alwayse say that violent video games cause violent behavour(soory about the spelling)
    but that is so untrue
like you i have played mortal kombat for ages and other violent games and im not going around killing people…

but in my opinion the fucked up kids that go and shootup a school and torture animals and shit play violent games because they are violent and like to kill stuff.. the game has nothing to do with turning them violent…

so yea baning them is not going to acomplish anything

yea i hope that made sence

It can…It depends on other factors though, for example if you have an already aggressive child with issues then yeah a video game can aggrivate that. If they sit there and play it for hours on end to where it becomes a part of who they are then yeah. but an average child without any exsisting issues is not going to become violent and go kill someone because of a video game. A parents incluence is much more dominant than a video game they know isn’t real and play occassionaly. I do believe it’s a good idea to limit certain content though simply because not everything is apropriate for all ages and all kids.

I, like you, have been playing Mortal Kombat and everything else since 1992. I’m not a violent person.

Part of the blame, I think, is to be put on the parents. Parents buy these games for their kids knowing good and well that it’s got a mature rating on it. For example: I was in Wal-Mart the other day, and there was a mom and her probably 12-year-old son. He wanted a game and the mom agreed to buy one for him. What game did she get him? Devil May Cry 4. M rating…see what I mean?

well i geuss that answer is not that enough, we can say that that happens to those who have a high trust level in their selves so we can’t say that all what he says happens to others
