Camcorder Problem?

March 21, 2010 by: nickadmin

My Canon ZR200 mini dv camcorder worked fine, but now when I play back videos there are a lot of thick static-y lines. It looks fine in camera mode. I have tried a brand new tape but it still looks bad.
IMPORTANT: I have also tried a video head cleaning tape but to no avail.

lol, that thing is like $200, what do you expect? i have two camcorders, my cheapest on is $1,100.

Try cleaning it again. Pop a tape in, forward all the way to the end and run it back to the front. Then try recording or playing a known good tape. Or have it professionally cleaned.
If that doesn’t do it there is a more serious problem such as a bad head.

sounds like there might be some dirt on the recording/playback heads. best to take it into the shop for a thorough cleaning.

if your recorder is still under warranty, contact the manufactor

Run the cleaning tape, then put the brand new tape in and play for at least 10 mins. This should clear the clog out. If that doesn’t fix it – you’ll need a professional clean or new heads.
