CLEANING VIDEO CAMERA HEADS, please help!! its urgent!!!?
February 27, 2010 by: nickadminOk, I have a digital 8 sony video camera, with about 10-20 hours recording time on it…
It started to get the pixelated lines accross the screen on playback… And its telling me the head needs cleaning.
I ran a dry head cleaner tap thru it and it did nothing!
Is there a way that i can clean it at home?!?
(I rang at least 10 shops, and only 1 had a dry cleaning kit!)
Its a dinosaur, i know…
Is there any home methods for cleaning it?
(The head is 10 – 20 hours old, it was replaced when the other one went caca!!)

I would recomend visitng the Sony site for the model number of their wet head cleaner kit and then do a pricegrabber search for a better price. I do NOT recommend any form of amateur cleaning efforts. You will very likely damage something and your warranty will NOT cover the repairs.
Video heads are very fragile do this at your own risk
You need a very soft, white cotton cloth and a fast evaporting liquid like Freon. You can possibly use “canned air” by turning it upside down and spraying part of the cloth. Then hold that cloth over the big heads and turn the big chrome wheel while you hold the wet cloth over the chrome front side.
Denatured Alchol may also work.
90% Isoproply may also work.
Don’t use regular Isoproply has it has too much water in it.
